Karakol ski 2026/27: how to get from Manas to the slopes in winter

Karakol ski base sits 7 km above Karakol town. From Manas airport (BSZ) it is 427 km and about 7.5 hours in winter along the north shore of Issyk-Kul; there is no ski shuttle on this route. Many flights land at night: if snow is falling, we do not drive the Boom gorge in the dark — your driver takes you to a Bishkek hotel and you leave at 09:00 for the same price. If you plan to fly on to Karakol airport (IKG), check that a flight actually operates on your date; a pre-booked car is the backup if it is cancelled. I land at 3 a.m. — do we drive straight on?
On a clear night, yes: lake-level roads rarely have snow. If snow is falling or forecast, we do not drive the Boom gorge in the dark — the driver takes you to a Bishkek hotel (you book and pay the hotel), and you leave at 09:00 in daylight. The car price stays the same. Night pickup 23:00–05:59 is +$25.

What about the Ala-Too resort at Jyrgalan?

What if the road is closed?
If the emergency ministry or the Ministry of Transport closes your road on the day, you get a free new date or a full refund. Coming from Almaty in winter we go via Korday and Bishkek, because the Karkara winter regime is not announced — see the Karkara guide.
