Irkeshtam is working on weekdays as of 27 October 2026: we found no closure notice for the coming days. It is not “closed since 1 January 2026” — that was a temporary New Year closure, and the post reopened. It closes on Saturdays, Sundays and Chinese public holidays; in 2026 it was shut on 1 January, around the Chinese New Year in February and on 19–20 June. We do not sell the crossing itself: rules on the Chinese side are set by China. Is Irkeshtam open now, or closed since 1 January 2026?
Working. The 1 January 2026 closure announced by the State Border Service was temporary. Since then the post has closed only for short holiday periods:

Which days is Irkeshtam closed?
Saturdays, Sundays and Chinese public holidays, according to the travellers’ schedule table (December 2024) and the 2026 closures above. Closures are usually announced only one to three days ahead by the Kyrgyz Border Service through 24.kg and Economist.kg. Plan a buffer day and never schedule a crossing on a Friday afternoon.
What hours does the post work, and in which time zone?
The posts work daytime hours on weekdays with a lunch break; travellers’ reports quote them in Beijing time, which is two hours ahead of Bishkek. Because there is no current official timetable we could verify, we time arrival for the morning opening.
Can RideKG take me across Irkeshtam to China?
No. We do not sell the crossing and do not promise a car on the Chinese side. We bring you to the Kyrgyz post at opening time; what happens after the Kyrgyz exit is outside our service. Check the Chinese-side requirements with your Chinese operator or the Chinese embassy before booking anything.

Is Irkeshtam closed in 2026?
No. It closed temporarily on 1 January 2026 and for Chinese holidays (February, 19–20 June), and as of 27 October 2026 works on weekdays.
Is Irkeshtam open on weekends?
No — Saturdays, Sundays and Chinese public holidays are closed days.
Do you drive to Kashgar?
No. We drive on the Kyrgyz side only and do not sell the crossing.
How early are closures announced?
Usually one to three days ahead, through Kyrgyz media citing the State Border Service.
What if the post closes on my date?

Which crossing is open 24 hours?
None to China. The only 24-hour Kyrgyz crossing we use is Ak-Zhol / Korday to Kazakhstan.
