The road
Out of Bishkek north to the Ak-Zhol post (20 minutes), across to Korday, then the A2 highway through Kaskelen into Almaty. Good asphalt both sides.

- Catching a flight from Almaty (ALA)? Drop-off at the airport is the same price; we leave with a 3-hour buffer for the border.
- Border swap: sedan $130, minivan $180 — usually faster on summer evenings when the car lanes queue.
- Have som for the Kyrgyz side and tenge for the first coffee: there are exchange booths at the border.
