Bishkek is where almost everyone starts and almost nobody stays. The good news for cost-splitting is that the routes out of it are the best-served by public transport in the country — so this page will mostly tell you not to bother with a taxi.
Marshrutkas from the Eastern bus station take six to seven hours. On the fare, sources disagree badly: the Karakol DMO says "from 500 som", one 2026 guide says 400–500, and the most recent dated traveller report paid 750 in late 2025. Budget 750. A shared taxi is 1,000–1,500 a person, leaves when full and saves about an hour. Night buses run at 21:00, 22:00 and 23:00.
There is no direct transport. You go to Kochkor — three hours, marshrutka — and arrange a 4x4 or a horse trek from there. That is the leg worth splitting, and it is covered on the Song-Kul page. Posting from Bishkek with Song-Kul as the destination is a good listing precisely because everyone else is doing the same two-stage trip.
Forty minutes from the city, 250 som to enter the national park as of June 2026. A taxi in and out is the normal way and is genuinely worth splitting, because there is no scheduled service to the gate and the driver usually waits. City buses in Bishkek are 17 som cashless, 20 cash, as of 1 July 2026.

Per-person costs, paid at the door in cash. Nothing here is negotiable and nothing here gets cheaper by sharing — which is exactly why we have put them in their own table.
