What a shared 4x4 actually costs in Kyrgyzstan, per person

Every page that ranks for these prices is selling you the transfer. This one is not selling anything — it is the vehicle price, the seat count, and the division, with the source of each figure named and the date it was checked.

The one rule that governs all of this

Almost every mountain vehicle in Kyrgyzstan is priced per vehicle, not per person. The UAZ to Altyn-Arashan costs 8,000 som whether one of you gets in or four. The 4x4 to Kel-Suu costs up to 20,000 som regardless. This single fact is why cost-splitting is worth more here than in most countries, and it is also the thing drivers will not volunteer if you turn up alone.

And the exception

Marshrutkas, shared taxis and yurt beds are priced per person. Sharing those saves you nothing. We have separated the two below rather than pad the first table, because a cost page that implies a buddy halves your yurt bill is a dishonest cost page.

Priced per vehicle — this is what splitting is for

The per-person column assumes the vehicle is full. Half-full, halve the saving.

These are reference figures collected from public sources and travellers' own reports, not quotes — RideKG sells nothing. Drivers negotiate, fuel moves, and a bad road year changes everything. Treat them as the number to start haggling from.

Included so you can see where the board is not worth using. Take the marshrutka.

Per-person costs, paid at the door in cash. Nothing here is negotiable and nothing here gets cheaper by sharing — which is exactly why we have put them in their own table.

The most extreme example: Kel-Suu

Naryn → Kel-Suu → Naryn, 4x4 with the driver waiting overnight costs 13,000–20,000 som whether one person or 4 are in it. That is the whole reason this board exists — the price does not change, only the number of people paying it.

1 person20,000 som≈ $229
2 people10,000 som≈ $114
3 people6,667 som≈ $76
4 people5,000 som≈ $57

Filling the vehicle saves the person who would otherwise ride alone 15,000 som (≈ $171) on this one leg.

Work out your own split

Put in the price you were actually quoted for the vehicle and how many of you there are.

What we could not verify, and are not going to guess at

If you have paid any of these recently, tell us what and when. It goes in the table with your date on it. Being the page that admits what it does not know is, oddly, the whole strategy here — every competitor quietly guesses.

Frequently asked

Are 4x4s in Kyrgyzstan priced per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle, nearly always, for mountain routes — the price is the same for one passenger or four. Marshrutkas, shared taxis and yurt beds are per person. That distinction is the whole economics of sharing here.
How much does a 4x4 cost per person in Kyrgyzstan?
It depends entirely on how many of you there are. Karakol to Altyn-Arashan is 8,000 som a vehicle — 2,000 each at four. Naryn to Kel-Suu is 13,000–20,000 a vehicle — 3,250–5,000 each at four. Alone, you pay the whole thing.
Are these prices quotes I can book?
No. Nothing on this site is for sale. They are reference figures from public sources and travellers' reports, each with its source and check date shown, so you know what is reasonable before you negotiate.
Why do your figures differ from what I was quoted?
Fuel, season, road condition and how obviously you need the ride. Our figures are a floor to negotiate from, not a ceiling. If yours differed, tell us and we will publish it with the date.
