Almost every classic Tian Shan trek starts here, and almost all of them start with a vehicle whose price does not change with the number of people in it. This is the town where sharing is worth the most.
Most travellers stay three to five nights and do more than one thing: Ala-Kul over the pass and out through Altyn-Arashan, a day at Jeti-Oguz, maybe Jyrgalan, and the Ak-Suu Traverse if they have a week. The pattern matters for the board — post the whole stay, not one day, because someone whose window overlaps yours by three days is a much better match than someone whose single date happens to equal yours.
Sharing is worth real money on the Altyn-Arashan UAZ (8,000 som a vehicle) and the taxi to the second Ala-Kul bridge (9,000 som). It is worth something on a Jyrgalan taxi (4,000–5,000). It is worth almost nothing on Jeti-Oguz, where the marshrutka is 80 som, or on Ak-Suu village, where it is 50. We would rather point you at the marshrutka than manufacture a reason to use the board.
Duet Hostel has a whiteboard in the lobby where people write their name, WhatsApp number and plan. It has worked for years and it is faster than any website for something happening tomorrow. Its limit is that only Duet's guests can see it — this board covers the other hostels, the other towns and the week before you land. Use both.
