Winter 2026/27
Skiing in Kyrgyzstan: how to get to every resort
Kyrgyzstan has the cheapest lift tickets in the region — Karakol is about half the price of Shymbulak — and this winter the state-built Ala-Too Resort opens in Jyrgalan. Getting there is the hard part: there is no ski shuttle from Bishkek, the nearest big resort is 7 hours away, and the new one has almost no hotels yet. This page is the logistics.

Getting from Manas airport to Karakol in winter
It is 427 km to the ski base along the north shore of Issyk-Kul — about 7.5 hours. Lake-level roads rarely have snow, but the Boom gorge can be icy at dawn and the days are short, so we do not drive it at night in snow: if you land at 3 am, our driver takes you to a Bishkek hotel and you leave at 9:00 for the same price.
Asman Airlines flies to Karakol airport (Bishkek about four times a week in season, Almaty twice a week). Flights get cancelled in bad weather; a pre-booked car is the backup.
Staying in Karakol, skiing somewhere else
The Karakol ski base is 7 km up from town — we run a ski shuttle and ski days. Jyrgalan (cat-skiing and the new Ala-Too Resort) is 60 km east: a day return with the driver waiting is $150 by 4x4.
What our winter cars carry
- Winter tyres on every car November–March, chains on board, shovel and tow rope.
- Sedan: 2 ski bags inside. Minivan with roof box: 5–6 pairs of skis or 4 boards.
- Ski boots ride inside the car so they are not frozen in the morning.
- If MChS or the Ministry of Transport closes your road, you get a free new date or a full refund.
