Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan: visa rules by nationality
For the overland trip Bishkek ⇄ Almaty you need to be allowed into Kazakhstan — and into Kyrgyzstan again if you come back. Checked on 20 October 2026 from official and news sources. Rules change: confirm with the embassy or official portal before you travel.

Practical tips
- Count the days: the 180- and 60-day windows are rolling, not calendar months.
- Keep your onward ticket and accommodation booking on your phone — officers sometimes ask.
- Children need their own passport; carry a notarised consent if a child travels with one parent.
- Students: universities’ international offices handle study visas and permits — ask them before you travel home.
