Issyk-Kul by zone: which shore, which airport, how to get there
The lake is 180 km long: choose the zone first, then the car. Manas → Cholpon-Ata from $180 per car, to the door of any hotel in the zone.

Issyk-Kul splits into three zones for a traveller. The north shore (Chok-Tal, Kosh-Kol, Bosteri, Cholpon-Ata) has the resort hotels and beaches: Manas → Cholpon-Ata is 275 km and about 4 hours on good asphalt, from $180 per car; if your flight lands at Tamchy airport (IKU), it is 35 km west of Cholpon-Ata. The south shore (Bokonbaevo, Skazka canyon, Barskoon) is yurt camps, eagle hunters and canyons: Bishkek → Bokonbaevo 280 km, about 4.5 hours, from $190. North shore or south shore — what is the difference?

Which airport: Manas or Tamchy?
Manas (BSZ, near Bishkek) has flights all year — see the Manas arrival guide. Issyk-Kul International at Tamchy (IKU) has far fewer flights — check whether your airline flies there; Tamchy → Cholpon-Ata is 35 km, from $40 per car. Coming from Almaty, Almaty → Cholpon-Ata goes through the 24-hour Korday border.
Is the price really the same for any hotel in the zone?
Yes — tell us the hotel name when you book. The north-shore price covers every hotel from Chok-Tal to Cholpon-Ata and Bosteri; Kosh-Kol and Chok-Tal are on the way. A hotel beyond the zone (for example further east towards Karakol) shows its own route in the calculator.
How do I see the south shore without a tour?
Book a car on the south-shore road. Bishkek → Karakol via the south shore (450 km, about 8 h) stops at Konorchek or Skazka canyon, Bokonbaevo and Barskoon on the way, from $300 per car. From Karakol, Skazka canyon and Barskoon are a day trip, from $130.
