Tash-Rabat is a stone caravanserai in At-Bashy district, Naryn region, at about 3,200 m, in a side valley east of the road to the Torugart pass; it is dated to the 10th or 15th century. No bus or marshrutka goes there. The usual way is Bishkek → Naryn (about 330 km, 5 hours over the Dolon pass), then Naryn → Tash-Rabat: 120 km and about 2.5 hours, asphalt to At-Bashy and along the Torugart highway, then 15 km of gravel. A car from Naryn there and back with waiting is from $160. Checked 27 October 2026.

Is there public transport to Tash-Rabat?

No. Marshrutkas reach Naryn and At-Bashy; the valley road to the caravanserai has no scheduled service. A car from Naryn waits while you visit and brings you back, or leaves you at the yurt camp beside the caravanserai for the night.

Can I combine Tash-Rabat with the Torugart border or Chatyr-Kul?

Chatyr-Kul lake and the Torugart pass lie south of Tash-Rabat in the border zone, which needs a permit. Torugart itself works only on weekdays and closes for Chinese holidays; we drive only on the Kyrgyz side — see the Torugart status page.

When is the best time?

June to September, when the yurt camp beside the caravanserai is open. The site is high: nights are cold and the valley can be snowy outside summer. We confirm the road a few days ahead.
